Determinants of land tenure security among small-holder farmers in rural Kenya: An ordered probit analysis

Land tenure security is key to rural transformation, diversification, increased agricultural production, and environmental sustainability. However, its determinants are still unclear, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where land insecurity widespread. The study evaluated the of using ordered probit model. Using pre-tested semi-structured questionnaires, data were collected from 366 respondents Narok county, Kenya a multistage sampling procedure. From results, household heads high category older, more educated, owned relatively larger sizes, had higher maize productivity with somewhat smaller sizes than those low medium categories. Furthermore, age, marital status, education level, number years stayed on land, fertility, acquisition through purchase, size, distance home parcel size main security. Pro-women youth policies should be enacted enhance Moreover, laws that protect property rights put place ease purchase procedure by reducing transaction costs weeding out corruption.
